Lone Working & Personal Safety for Cleaners
An evening office clean runs late, your monitoring contact becomes unavailable or the access arrangements do not match the booking. Knowing how to clean the property is only part of the job. You also need to decide whether working alone is suitable, maintain effective contact and know when to stop.
This CCMTec Academy Focused Skills course teaches a practical sequence from booking checks through arrival, working safely and departure. It is suitable for self-employed cleaners, employed cleaning staff and supervisors arranging lone-working visits across domestic, tenancy and commercial cleaning.
Six practical modules
- Assess the job: check the task, location, equipment and support before agreeing to work alone.
- Check the property: compare arrival conditions with the booking and respond when things have changed.
- Keep in touch: agree monitoring, check-ins, backup cover and missed-contact actions.
- Manage access: confirm keys, alarm instructions, fault contacts and a usable way out.
- Respond when you feel unsafe: stop, move to safety and obtain appropriate help without delaying for equipment or payment.
- Leave and report: confirm departure, hand over accurately and turn problems into specific improvements before the next visit.
Assessment and course-completion certificate
The course includes a ten-question scenario-based assessment with a pass mark of seven out of ten (70%). Feedback explains the best responses and the alternatives. A course-completion certificate is available after passing.
Lessons include ordered steps, realistic worked examples and practical checks. The teaching is carried in the online modules; there are no separate handouts to download. This is an online course, not a physical product or classroom booking.
Important scope and limitations
This course is general training, not a site-specific risk assessment, first-aid or self-defence qualification, or an externally accredited qualification. Passing does not demonstrate supervised practical competence or establish that every task is suitable for lone working. Follow applicable employer procedures, site rules and emergency arrangements, and stay within your competence and authorisation.
