Under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (Regulation 10), anyone who may encounter asbestos-containing materials during their normal work must receive adequate information, instruction, and training before they begin that work. For cleaning professionals, this includes anyone entering or working in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Why This Matters — The Numbers
Asbestos is the single largest cause of work-related death in the UK — killing more people annually than road accidents. The majority of those deaths occur in the construction, maintenance, and cleaning sectors, where workers disturb asbestos-containing materials without knowing what they are encountering.
Asbestos was used in over 3,000 different building products. It cannot be identified by sight alone in most cases. It was present in floor tiles, ceiling tiles, pipe lagging, artex coatings, insulation boards, roofing felt, soffit boards, guttering, and behind wall and floor finishes. Course Modules — What You Will Learn
Each module is written to meet HSE's requirements for Category A asbestos awareness training as set out in L143 — Managing and Working with Asbestos. Every module includes worked scenarios, knowledge check questions, and clear learning outcomes.
The three commercially used asbestos types — chrysotile (white), amosite (brown), and crocidolite (blue). How fibres behave when materials are disturbed, how they are inhaled and retained in lung tissue, and the diseases they cause: mesothelioma, asbestosis, lung cancer, and pleural thickening. The latency period of 20–50 years and what that means for risk assessment.

What This Certificate Covers — and What It Does Not
This is a Category A Asbestos Awareness course — the training standard required for workers who may encounter asbestos-containing materials during their normal work but whose role does not involve deliberate disturbance of ACMs.
Completing this course means you know how to recognise suspect materials, how to avoid disturbing them, and exactly what to do if accidental disturbance occurs. It does not authorise you to remove, encapsulate, sample, or work directly with asbestos-containing materials. That work requires a licensed contractor under CAR 2012 Regulation 8, or in some cases non-licensed but notifiable work under Regulation 9.
What this certificate gives you is what CAR 2012 Regulation 10 requires of your role — documented evidence that you have received Category A awareness training before working in environments where ACMs may be present.
This course is not registered with UKATA (UK Asbestos Training Association) or IATP (Independent Asbestos Training Providers). If your site contract or principal contractor specifies that asbestos awareness training must come from a UKATA or IATP registered provider, please verify your requirements before purchasing.
